Meditation

Life is stressful and we’re bad at dealing with it. Today, we’re going to talk about one of many ways to cope with stress: meditation. A practice that has been used in various forms for thousands of years, meditation has been shown to, among many benefits, lower stress, improve focus, increase patience, and improve memory.

The practice, which takes practice, is fairly simple and only requires 5-10 minutes and a quiet space. There are hundreds of resources available online in the form of guided meditations, subscription apps, and websites dedicated to meditation.

There are dozens of types of meditation, but there are two types that are great for beginners:

  • Guided meditation. With this method of meditation, you form mental images of places or situations you find relaxing. Often uses a narrator, live or taped.
  • Mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation is based on being mindful, or having an increased awareness and acceptance of living in the present moment. You focus on what you experience during meditation, such as your breathing. You observe your thoughts and emotions, but try to let them pass without judgment.

Meditation can be a great resource for you and your employees. Give it a try.
